The Bay Times and Record Observer August 26, 2022 Page 19 James Cavender Bennett, Sr. CHURCH HILL James Cavender Bennett, Sr. of Church Hill, MD passed away peacefully on August 21, 2022, at Corsica Hills Nursing Facility in Centreville, MD. He was 88. Born on January 31, 1934, in Baltimore, MD, Jim was the son of the late Morgan Knight Bennett, Sr.

and Emma Elizabeth Jarrell Ben- nett. His love and passion for aviation began as a small child when he had the chance to have his first ride in a J-3 Piper Cub at a local airstrip. After graduating from Preston High school in 1952, Jim enrolled in Embry Rid- dle School of Aviation in Miami, Florida and became an FAA certified aircraft mechanic. Following graduation, he served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army, 7th Infantry Division, as a Technical Inspector of observation planes.

Later, he accepted a posi- tion in California flying for the famous avia- trix, Jacqueline Cochran as her private co-pi- lot sitting beside his future father-in-law. This assignment would require him to spend six months in California and six months in New York each year. After his marriage to Nancy, they moved to Findlay, Ohio where he flew for Marathon Oil Company as a corporate pilot. In 1962, Jim moved back to the Eastern Shore where he began a salvage business. He eventu- ally took over the family business, Bennett Cohey Auto Salvage, to raise his family in the same home where he grew up.

Jim continued to enjoy flying throughout his life and owned various small planes, including his prized AT-6 Texan. He enjoyed his retirement years at Kennersley Farm in Church Hill, MD at the Jim was a lifetime Colonel in the Commemorative Air Force, an original member of the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum and the Massey Air Museum. Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy Bennett of Church Hill, MD; daughters, Beth Coxon (Bill); Louisa Welch; sons James Bennett (Ana Ligia); Edward Bennett (Kathryn); 14 grand- children; and many great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Morgan K. Bennett, Jr.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 10am 11 am at the Fellows, Helfenbein Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD, where a service will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow in the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, 11 Museum Drive, Reading, PA 19605. fhnfuneralhome.com Edward Leroy Kipp Ed VISALIA On Saturday, August 13, 2022 at approximately 6 pm, Edward Leroy Kipp passed away peacefully from this physical life on earth at the Quail Park Enhanced Assisted Liv- ing Center in Visalia, CA. Edward Leroy Kipp was married to the love of his life, Sarah F. Kipp, for 67 years until her passing on December 12, 2014. They lived together for 33 years in their home at 1613 Seward Rd, Marling Farms, Kent Island Maryland, before moving to Visalia. Edward Leroy Kipp was a decorated World War II veteran in the United States Army.

Edward Leroy Kipp-- or better known as by his friends and family-- was born August 5, 1923 in Baltimore, MD. He grew up in Baltimore and spent his summer months on the Magothy River, near Magothy Beach, Maryland. He moved to Severna Park in 1959 with Sarah and their two children-- Roger and Marshall. He began work at WMAR Channel 2 in Baltimore. Soon after, he took a job with the United States Information Agency where he worked in a television studio at 12 Pennsylvania Ave, in Washington DC till 1983 when he re- tired.

Retirement was short. In 1983, he started Captain Ed Fishing Charter Service, which he ran until 1993, and from 1993 to 2022 he built many boats, commissions and model boats. Throughout his life, Edward treasured his family, and enjoyed boating, fishing, music, his iPhone (which he was very adept at social events, reading, and an occasional Jack and Coke, and always a good joke! He was a Freemason Masonic Lodge member and a de- vout Christian. Edward is predeceased by his father Wilford Edward Kipp, mother Adella Pryor Kipp, and his grandparents. He is survived by his brother Ronald P.

Kipp, his sons Roger W. Kipp and wife Pam, Edward Marshall Kipp and his wife Zulay, his nieces Rene Woodlief and Debbie Ackiss, his grandchildren Scott Kipp (Candi), Andrew Kipp (Laura), Kevin Kipp (Jenifer), Dennis Kipp (Amy), Chap Kipp (Amanda), Cassidy Kipp, Kim Bordere (David), and Rom- mel Verenzuela (Bonnie). Edward also leaves his great grandchildren Molly Kipp, Owen Kipp, Hailey Baker, Preston Baker, Leonel Verenzu- ela, Jade Araujo, and Aden Araujo. The funeral services are as follows: Monday, August 29, 2022 at Salser Dillard Funeral Chapel in Visalia, CA. Viewing is at 9:30 AM, funeral services are at 10:30 AM to 11:45 with a break for refreshments.

Graveside Honor Guard Military Service will be held at 1 PM at Visalia Cemetery. Phyllis Jean Robertson (Curry) STEVENSVILLE PHYLLIS JEAN ROBERTSON, 73, of Stevensville, passed away peace- fully, surrounded by her family and friends, at Compass Regional Hospice in Centrev- ille. Born November 27, 1948, in Hunting- ton, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James Curry Jr. and Geneva Curry, nee Parks; beloved wife of the late Joseph C.

Robertson, his wife of 53 years; lov- ing mother of John David Robertson and his wife Stephanie Robertson, nee Sinnett; devoted Nana of Joseph S. Robertson; and dedicated family member to Samuel Sarah Sinnett and Shawn, Trae Syrus Sinnett. In her leisure time, she loved to work in her garden, enjoyed sewing, and most of all, she loved to spend time with her family and Kent Island friends. She taught Home Economics at Fairland High School in Ohio for over 30 years. She was a graduate of Huntington High School and Marshall University.

Celebrations of Life EASTON To promote early detection of prostate cancer, the Cancer Program at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health plans to offer free pros- tate screenings in Chestertown and Easton in September. The Centers for Disease Con- trol and Prevention reports one in nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, about six cases in 10 are diagnosed in men aged 65 or older, and it is rare before age 40.
