Dorchester Star OBITUARIES Friday, August 28, 2015 7 James H. McCready Sr. CAMBRIDGE James H. McCready 84, of Cambridge, MD, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Cambridge on August 31, 1930 and was a son of the late James W.

McCready and Dorothy Stewart McCready. He graduated from Cambridge High School, Class of 1949. Mr. McCready served in U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict.

On August 7, 1952, he married the former Shirley Cheesman, who passed away on December 5, 2014. He was a bricklayer with Allen Tyler and Son and later with his son McCready Masonry Inc. He enjoyed crabbing, making wine, and gardening. He was a mem- ber of the American Legion Post 91 and the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW. He is survived by two children, Jim McCready Jr.

and wife Ann of Rhodesdale and Pam Abbott and husband Wylie of Island, six grandchildren Brad McCready, Dr. Robert McCready, Lauren Walker, Brittany McCready, Jason Abbott and Kristin Abbott, ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. McCready is preceded in death by a son Robert Bruce McCready and a granddaughter Janie Rebecca Abbott. Pallbearers will be Jason Abbott, David Lewis, Brad McCready, Les Booze, Bobby McClain and Norval Pritchett Jr.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Pastor Dave Stewart and Mr. Dr. Robert McCready officiating.

Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, Sherry Wood, P.O. Box 95, East New Market, MD 21631. James H.

r. Marilyn M. Luthy CAMBRIDGE Marilyn Mae Luthy, 82, of Cambridge, MD, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2015 after a brief illness. A celebration of life will take place at 12 p.m. on August 29, 2015 at Immanuel United Church of Christ.

She asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Immanuel Church of Christ Memorial Fund at 5401 White Hall Road, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Virginia Lee Brisco CAMBRIDGE Virginia Lee Brisco, daughter of the late Helen Nichols and the late Benjamin Woolford, was born on June 18, 1941, and departed this life at the age of 74 on Aug. 8, 2015 at Univ.

of MD Hospital in Glen Burnie. BB, as she was lovingly referred, was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County and graduated from Maces Lane High School in 1959. She began her career in the Dorchester County School System as a aide. BB also worked at Bumble Bee Seafood and Jamesway. On Dec.

10, 1966, BB married Otho Brisco in Cambridge. BB and as he was referred as, remained married for 43 years. Determined to better her education, BB went back to college at Sojourner Douglas College obtaining a Degree in Human Services in 1989. In 1990, BB accepted a position working at Maple Shade Youth and Family Services, a therapeutic group home for girls. BB found joy and fulfillment in working with the population of young women and spent the remainder of her career educating those young ladies.

BB was a lifelong member of Bethel AME Church in Cambridge. She emphasized the importance of God and faith in her life and instilled that same faith into her children and grandchildren. BB is described as a wise and witty woman. She was friendly, loving and very family oriented person. When anyone saw BB, she was always smiling.

She cared so much about other people and it showed in everything that she did. BB was very playful and always enjoyed having a good time with family and friends. BB lived her life with pride, never complaining or asking for help. She embodied the qualities of a strong woman. BB was blessed to be loved and supported by special friends in the community; Faye Anderson, Barbara Bishop, Martina Cornish, Audrey Jackson, Gloria Jackson, Doretha Johnson, Evangelist Mary Elliott Stanley and Lena Whitfield.

She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Roslyn Nichols (Baltimore, MD), Trina Brisco (Cambridge, MD) and Faye Carson (Easton, MD); four grandchildren, Keyandra Brisco (Baltimore), Taneesha and Luis George Jr. (Atlanta, GA), Jawara and Dainelle Stephenson (Baltimore) and Kendraya Brisco (Cambridge); one sister, Aloma Elliott; one niece, Tonya Franklin (Mardela Springs, MD) and four great-grandchildren. BB was preceded in death by her daughter, Aleisha Nichols. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug.

William L. English CAMBRIDGE The Rev. William Lawson English, only child of William Marion English and Mollie Stewart English, was born July 19, 1936, in the Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge, MD. Rev. English died peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 25, 2015 at his home.

William graduated from Cambridge High School in 1954; Wesley College in Dover, DE in 1957 and the American University in Washington, DC in 1960. He was in the office of the Treasurer of the U.S. in Washington from 1960 until 1962. He matriculated to the General Theological Seminary in New York City, September 1962 and graduated with a Degree in Divinity in 1965. He was ordained priest in the Episcopal Church December 21, 1965 in Easton, MD by the Rt.

Rev. Allen J. Miller, Bishop of Easton. Rev. English served as Rector of St.

East New Market; St. Hurlock and the Chapel of the Epiphany, Preston, from 1965 through 1966. In 1967, he returned to New York City to become the priest at St. Castleton, Staten Island, NY, where he remained until his retirement November 1, 1999. He served St.

for 32 years. After his retirement, he moved back to Cambridge where he lived in his childhood home until his death. Surviving him are several cousins and good friends. Funeral services will be conducted from Old Trinity Church, Church Creek, at noon Monday, Aug. 31.

Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park, Cambridge. Officiating will be several of Rev. Colleagues. Memorial donations can be made in memory of Rev. English to your church, the Dorchester General Hospital, 300 Byrn Street, Cambridge, MD 21613 or the Rev.

22, 2015, at the home of her granddaughter, Jennifer. She was married to the late Walter William Beletsky for 70 years. Alice was born June 29, 1922, in Branford, CT to the late Anna (Ifkovic) and Matthew Rodman Belanic. Alice graduated from Branford High School in 1939 and attended New Haven Junior College in New Haven, CT. Before she married, she was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper at General Adjustment Ins.

Bureau in New Haven, CT and after her children were grown, at La- ticrete International. An 89 year resident of Connecticut, primarily in Bethany and Woodbridge, she thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of her weekly bridge games which continued after her move to Secretary, MD. She was a loving wife to her husband Walter W. Beletsky (d.o.d who she deeply missed. Alice considered her greatest accomplishments being her long and loving marriage to her husband, being a homemaker, and devoted mother to three sons.

Alice is survived by her three sons, William Walter (Tina) of Virginia, Robert John (Alice) of Maryland and Barry Paul (Denise Rioux) of Connecticut; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A Mass is being dedicated in honor at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Secretary and a graveside service will be held in Branford, CT at a later date. The 2014-2015 Art Camp Angels were Leslie Bishop, Martha Keating, Jeanne Pinault, Cindy and Jim Reed, Kathy and Jack Scanlon, and Dave Wallace.

The Mid-Shore Community Founda- Artistic Insights and George B. Todd funds also provided $4,500 in scholarships. Thanks to all of these donations, 55 students received scholarships and were able to participate this summer. This fall, DCA is presenting Art and is looking for more individuals to provide scholarship funds for the six-week session; $30 sponsors a child for the entire program.
