Peggy Blades-Lindale COLUMBIA Peggy Blades- Lindale of Columbia died Sept. 10 at Howard County General. Born Feb. 9, 1939, in Concrete, Washington, she was a graduate of Preston High School in 1967. She was a former resident of Laurel, Edgewater, and the Denton area.

For most of her career she worked as a medical assistant or medical office manager. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Laurel and very involved in the 30 and over Sunday Bible Study for several years. She was very involved with the Laurel Cancer Support group and the American Cancer Society. She received an award from the Governor of Maryland and was chosen to represent the DC area one year and received an award for that. Her hobbies included flower gardening, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and feeding and watching little Survivors include children, Nancy Manente of Hagerstown, Carol Trott of Severna Park, Joan Joyce of Lexington, Curtis Blades of Odenton, and Lori Evans of Port Deposit; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services were held Sept. 16 at the Donaldson Funeral Home Crematory, P.A. Interment was in Lakemont Memorial Gardens. Peggy J. Brooks HURLOCK Peggy June Brooks, 68, of Hurlock, died Sept.

15 at her home. Born July 7, 1941, in Camp Hill, she was the daughter of Doris McCann Moss of Federalsburg and the late John Moss. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy in Seaford, Del. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, James R. Brooks of Hurlock, whom she married May 4, 1959; two daughters, Pam Russ of Parsonsburg and Julie Passon of Hebron and her husband Rob; three grandchildren, Kristen Russ, Brandon Russ and Hunter Passon; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Bonneville and Jayda Bonneville; two brothers, Percy Moss of Ocoee, and David Moss of Federalsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Moss. Funeral services were held Sept. 19 at Church of God of Prophecy in Seaford, Del. Interment was in East New Market Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Church of God of Prophecy, 22699 Bridgeville Highway, Seaford, DE 19973.

Arrangements by Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market. Julia Ann Cooney RIDGELY Julia Ann Cooney of Ridgely died Sept. 16 at her home. She was 71. Known as Julie, Mrs.

Cooney was born in Florence, S.C. Mrs. Cooney was the daughter of the late John Wilbur Gunter and Julia Baxley Gunter. She moved to Baltimore as a child and finally to Ridgely in 1977. Mrs.

Cooney was a homemaker, but she had also driven a bus for the Caroline Center Adult Day Care in Ridgely for many years. She had also worked at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton for many years. She was a member of the Ridgely Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Cooney is survived by her husband, Paul E.

Cooney of Ridgely; two sons, Roy R. Cooney of Upper Peninsula, and Michael D. Cooney of Queenstown; one brother, John W. Gunter of Odenton; one sister, Linda Allman of Pasadena; and five grandchildren. The funeral service was held Sept.

19 at the Moore Funeral Home P.A. in Denton. Interment was in the Denton Cemetery. The family suggests friends send memorial donations to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.

Howard L. Johnson Sr. DENTON Howard L. Johnson Sr. of Denton died Sept.

13 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 82. Known as Mr. Johnson was the son of the late George W. Johnson and Laura Murray Johnson.

His wife, Anna Mae Johnson, died in 1972. Mr. Johnson lived his entire life in Caroline County. He had been in the fish business, drove a truck, had worked for Nuttle Lumber and Coal in Denton and had worked many years for Fox Foods in Queen Anne. He was a World War II Army veteran and served during the occupation of Germany.

Mr. Johnson is survived by two sons, Howard L. Johnson Jr. and Lester Johnson, both of Denton; three daughters, Shirley Marie Thomas of Ridgely, Doris Johnson of Denton and Brenda Mae Johnson of Ridgely; one sister, Bernita Earle of Wilmington, six grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Sept.

19 at the Abrams Church in Denton. Interment was held Sept. 18 iat the Eastern Shore Cemetery in Hurlock. Arrangements by Moore Funeral Home P.A., Denton. Kevin W.

M. Morris CENTREVILLE Kevin Wayne Murphy Morris, 26, of Prince Frederick and Centreville died suddenly Sept. 12 in Federalsburg. Born on Feb. 7, 1983, at Prince Hospital in Cheverly, he graduated from Queen Anne High School and attended Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W.

Va. He was employed doing home improvement. He enjoyed sports, physical fitness and rescuing pit bulls. He was the beloved son of Tracy Wise of Federalsburg and Roger Murphy of Prince Frederick; brother of Christopher Murphy of Huntingtown, Roger A. Murphy II of Lusby, Heather Ball of Westminster, Tracy Ogle of Chesapeake Beach, Melissa Akaras of College Park and Danielle Murphy of Prince Frederick; grandson of Dorothy Morris of North Beach and the late Roger E.

Murphy and Maryanne Morris; stepson of Mike Wise of Federalsburg and Diana Murphy of Prince Frederick. A Life Celebration Service was held Sept. 17 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, Edgewater. Interment was private.

She was 66. Born in Queen County, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Sampson and Helen Pauls. After graduation from Lockerman High School and attending Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C., Diane worked for more than 20 years at the Tidewater Inn in Easton, where she was named employee of the year once. Diane worked at the Crown Inn on Route 50 in Easton in her early years, then finished her work career in 2005, retiring from Peebles Department Store after many years of service and also winning employee of the year once there too. She leaves to cherish her precious memories one son, Gregory Sampson of Easton; two brothers, Rodney Sampson and Donald Green, both of Easton; two sisters, Caletha Green of Clinton and Rosalind Green of St.

Michaels; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Green and Reginald Green; a sister, Linda Green; and a loving husband, Lawrence D. Neale, who passed away in 2005 after almost 10 years of marriage. Services were held Sept. 19 at Union Baptist Church in Easton.

She was 56. She was born Sept.

21, 1952, in Cambridge, daughter of the late Sanford Franklin English and Maggie Hughes English. She was a graduate of North Dorchester High School class of 1970. She had been a faithful newspaper carrier of The Star Democrat for more than 16 years, being recognized as the best carrier they ever had. She also delivered The Daily Banner for more than four years. She enjoyed traveling, was an avid fan of Elvis Presley, and dearly loved cats, especially a favorite named She is survived by seven sisters, Betty Lofland of Federalsburg, Doris Franz and Mildred Short, both of Hurlock, Anna Mae Patchett of Preston, Barbara Wharton of Federalsburg, Joyce Brown of Glen Burnie, and Linda English of Hurlock; one brother Franklin English of Federalsburg, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by three siblings, Peggy Ann English, Marie English and William English. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Framptom Funeral Home, with the Rev. Karen Bongard officiating. Interment will follow at Unity- Washington Cemetery.

F. Carol English EASTON Stella Harrington George passed away after a brief illness on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at her home in Preston. She was 79. Born April 10, 1930, in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late William Guy Harrington and Marilla Andrews Harrington Sheerin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Hollingsworth George and a sister, Betty Harrington Ellingsworth. She worked as a beautician for Beauty Shop in the early 1960s. In 1966, she started the first produce stand on Route 50 and ran it until the early 1990s. She received her CNA and assisted with elderly care through a variety of agencies. She was working for Sunshine Senior and Family Services in Denton until June 2009.

Most of her spare time was spent with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, farming and going to auctions. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by a son, Julius Guy George (J. Guy) of Easton, a daughter, Stella Lee Coulbourne of Preston and her son-in-law, Walter Thomas Coulbourne; three grandchildren, Robert Hollingsworth Satterfield, a graduate of Towson University who lives in Towson, David Lee Satterfield, a student at Towson University, and Mary Caroline Sundh George (Molly), a student at Hobart and William Smith College, Geneva, N.Y. A private graveside service will be held at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Easton.

Stella H. George EASTON Michael Wise Patterson, 66, of Easton died suddenly Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. Mike was a mortgage broker for many years in the Eastern Shore area.

In recent years, Michael served in the Annapolis and Eastern Shore areas as a real estate agent for Long Foster, Remax, New Homes Realty Zip Realty and most recently, Real Estate.com. Prior to being a mortgage broker, he was owner and operator of Cowboys Restaurant in Rockville, Montgomery County. He was a member of Masonic National- Stansbury-Dawson Lodge No. 12 F.A.A.M. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Carlyle Nelson Patterson and Marie B.

Patterson. His late wife, Virginia E. Patterson, died May 7, 2002. Surviving are his daughters, Diana Hobbs of Ijamsville, and Julie Johnson and Suzanne Kinzer, both of Brookeville. He also is survived by a brother, Charles Patterson of Rockville; a sister, Mary Christine Patterson of Brick, N.J.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and two nephews.

Also surviving are his wife, Sandra Showell Patterson of Easton, and her children, Amanda Showell Cook of Greensboro and Frank X. Showell Jr. of Preston. Visitation was held Monday, Sept. 21, at Francis J.

Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. Silver Spring. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Bladensburg. Michael W.

Patterson LAURA BRADLEY FEDERALSBURG Laura Mae Bradley of Federalsburg passed away Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 86. Born in Watertown, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Rueben Joseph and Rose Ann Ashby Green. Mrs.

Bradley moved to Federalsburg in 1949 and married Emerson Bradley on June 14, 1950. Mr. Bradley preceded her in death in 1972. She worked for many years at Maryland Plastics and also at Caroline Poultry. She is survived by five daughters, Rose Ann Johnson of Laurel, Katie Sard of Hurlock, Edna Holland of Sharptown, Laura Moore of Ormond Beach, Fla.

and Alma Kirwin of Bunnell, and by one son, Wayne Bradley of Rossford, Ohio. She is also survived by one sister, June Smith of Hurlock; one brother, Ralph Green of Denton; and by 17 grandchildren, 32 great- grandchildren and three Laura Bradley great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at Williamson Funeral Home in Federalsburg, with the Rev.

Denzil Cheek officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the funeral service. Interment will take place at HillCrest Cemetery in Federalsburg. www.williamsonfuneral.com MARYDEL Harry Melvin Burris, 67, of Marydel died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at his home.

He was born Jan. 14, 1942, in Barclay, to the late Arthur and Susie Pearl Seward Burris. Mr. Burris is a lifetime resident of the area. He worked at Playtex in Dover, before he started his own business, Garage.

He enjoyed being an auto mechanic and teaching his children and grandsons his mechanical skills. Mr. Burris was a great fan of NASCAR and standardbred horse racing. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing and crabbing. He liked helping his friends and neighbors whenever needed.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Mae Burris of Marydel; two sons, Eugene Burris of Sandtown, and Melvin V. Burris of Hartly, Del; one daughter, Patricia Ann Burris of Kenton, two sisters, Dorris Burris and Alice Mae Collins, both of Templeville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a lifetime friend, Mary Jane Sapp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rocky A. Burris. A visitation will be held from Harry M.

Burris 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Fleegle Helfenbein Funeral Home P.A. in Greensboro, where a service will be held at 2 p.m. Internment will be at Greensboro Cemetery.

He was a past secretary- treasurer of the Easton Lions Club, a former member of the Easton Elks Lodge 1622 and the Miles River Yacht Club and Power Squadron. He is survived by his devoted wife of 75 years, Edith; and his children, Richard his wife, Eleanor; daughter, Joan Cox, her husband, Wayne; daughter, Ann Ball, her husband, George and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren. His body is being donated to the Maryland Anatomy Board.

It is requested that memorial donations be made to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601. DENTON Richard Joseph Filbird, Sr. died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 at the Caroline Nursing Home. He was 93.

Shortly after graduating from Easton High School in 1934, he married Edith Frances Bramble. They met in the High School Glee Club and continued singing together for many years at numerous local activities, the Easton Community Chorus, and for 25 years in the Easton Christ Church choir. He also served on the Vestry at the church. In the early 1950s he Richard J. Filbird Sr.

DENTON Mary Johnson Hughes of Goldsboro died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton. She was 95. She was born Feb. 13, 1914, in Goldsboro, to the late George C.

and Emma A. Clayville Johnson. Mrs. Hughes is a lifetime resident of the area. She graduated from Greensboro High School in 1931.

She is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She is survived by a son, George B. Hughes of Mary J. Hughes Landenberg, two daughters, Regina Rudnick of Fisher Island, and Mary Rebecca Weaver of Greensboro; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford T.

Hughes; and sister, Evelyn J. Ross. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Hopkins Cemetery in Felton, Del.
