James A. Miliner Jr. CHESTERTOWN James Alvin Miliner, Jr. of Chestertown, died on May 22, 2001 at Kent Queen Hospital. He was 63.

Born in Elkridge, MD, he was the son of the late James Alvin, Sr. and Mildred Julia Coughlin Miliner. Mr. Miliner was a 1957 graduate of Howard High School in Howard County, MD. He owned and operated Chesapeake Motel in Grasonville, as well as White Elk Motel and Econo Lodge both in Elkridge, MD.

He retired in the early and worked as a commercial fisherman in Florida for 10 years before moving to Chestertown, in 1991. In Chestertown Mr. Miliner operated a shuttle service and also drove for Washington College until his illness. He enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting. Mr.

Miliner is survived by one son, James A. Miliner, III of Baltimore and one sister Joan Byrne of Hedgesville, WV. He was preceded in death by a sister Shirley Pindell in 2000. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2001 at 11 a.m. from the Fellows, Helfenbein Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 130 Speer Chestertown.

Interment will be at Stevensville Cemetery, Stevensville. Memorial contributions may be made to Kent Queen Hospital, 100 Brown Street, Chestertown, 21620. John S.Melvin GRASONVILLE John Samuel Melvin of Grasonville died at the Sinai Hospital, Baltimore on Sunday, May 20, 2001. He was 80. Born May 2, 1921 at Wye Island, he was the son of the late John B.

and Ella Smith Melvin. He attended school in Queen Anne County and worked on the family farm. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army and following his release from active duty he returned to farming until 1954 when he went into the plumbing business. In 1967 he began working in construc- tion until his retirement in 1985.

Mr. Melvin is survived by his wife, the former, Betty Melvin, whom he married on Nov. 29, 1957; a brother, James E. Melvin of Grasonville; five nieces and two nephews. A sister, Georgianna Chance, is deceased.

Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville on Friday, May 25, 2001 at 2 p.m. where friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be at Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville. Mary K.Allen GRASONVILLE Mary K. Allen of Grasonville died at the Memorial Hospital, Easton, on Friday, May 18, 2001.

Born in Talbot County, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Mary Edith Hopkins Gannon. She was a school bus driver for the Queen County Board of Education, retiring after many years of devoted service. In 1978, she married Herbert H. Allen.

They made their home in Grasonville. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Bay Country Moose Lodge Grasonville. In addition to her husband, she is survived a son, Wm. Terry Perkins of Viola, two daughters, Pamela Amador of Bethlehem and Rose Andrew of Cordova; one stepdaughter, Sylvia Voshell of Millington; 10 grandchildren; two stepgrand- children; and six great-grandchildren.

A sister, Norma Lord, is deceased. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2001 at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home P.A. Centreville, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.

Box 1306, Easton, Md. 21601. Harold F. Chance Sr. GRASONVILLE Harold Franklin Chance Sr.

of Grasonville died on May 17, 2001 at The Pines Genesis Eldercare, Easton. He was 78. Born on Feb. 12, 1923 in Easton, he was the son of the late William and Margaret Hubbard Chance. After attending Easton High School, he served in the Navy during WW II.

He was honorably discharged and returned to Easton and began working for Laundry in Easton as a salesman in Talbot and Kent Counties. He married Reba Margaret Seward on June 10, 1950. They moved to the Washington area where Mr. Chance worked for National Airport as a manager for the Skycaps. They later moved to Grasonville.

Mr. Chance then worked for BWI also as a manager of the Skycaps. After retiring from BWl, he resided in Grasonville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Harold Chance Jr. of Easton; six sisters, Carolyn Williamson of Preston, Jean Arnie of Preston, Phyllis Butler of Greensboro, Dorothy Lord of Federalsburg, Elaine Pressley of Easton, and Evelyn Stafford of Greensboro; and one brother, Charles Chance predeceased him.

Services were held Saturday, May 19, 2001 at Fellows, Helfenbein Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Centreville. Burial was at Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville. Mary Jane Thomas CENTREVILLE Mary Jane Thomas of Centreville, formerly of Island, died Monday, May 14, 2001 at Memorial Hospital in Easton. She was 80. Born on August 29, 1920 on Island, she was the daughter of the late John D.

and Gertrude Harten Brooks. After attending school on Island she married Allen J. Shores. They moved to Baltimore, where she worked for Calvert Distilling until becoming a homemaker. They later moved to Arnold.

Mrs. Thomas then moved back to Island and married Wilson Thomas. After he predeceased her, she moved to Stevensville to be near her family, and then to Centreville. Mrs. Thomas is survived by three sons, Gary A.

Shores of Chester, Larry Shores of Florida, and John D. Shores of California; two daughters, Nancy L. Ryan of North Carolina and Deborah L. Shores of Virginia; eight grandchildren and 17 grandchildren. Four brothers and a sister predeceased her.

Norman W.Lord MILLINGTON Norman Wesley Lord of Millington died on May 19, 2001 at Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestertown. He was 89. Born on January 20, 1912 in Caroline County, he was the son of the late: Clarence and Nettie Williamson Lord.

At a young age Mr. Lord drove a milk truck carrying milk for packaging and distribution. He worked for Leeds travel ware in Clayton, De for several years before working at Metalcraft in Smyrna, De. from which he retired in the He was married in 1950 to Edna Wilson, they lived in Chestertown, in 1967 she predeceased him. After retirement Mr.

Lord worked part-time cutting area lawns. He enjoyed gardening and visiting with friends. He is survived by a son John Lord of Millington; three daughters, Rachel Lord of Baltimore; Bonnie Stafford of Millington; and JoeAnn Beverly of California. Along with 8 stepchildren, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Private graveside services will be held.

Mary Ann Connolley CHESTERTOWN Margaret Ann Connolley of Chestertown died on Thursday, May 17, 2001 at her home. She was 63. Born in Chestertown on Sept.

24, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Edward and Maggie Josephine Patrick Hurd. She was a 1955 graduate of Chestertown High School. Mrs. Connolley worked for Department Store. On Sept.

24, 1955, she married Francis Connolley former Vice President of Printing for Chesapeake Publishing and they lived in Chestertown. Mrs. Connolley worked as a switchboard operator for a few years before retiring in 1959 to raise her family.
