IMES -R ECORD AY 28 UNE 3,2003 PAGE8A OBITUARIES DEATHS ELSEWHERE Emma M. Lord RIDGELY Emma M. Lord of Ridgely died on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at her home. She was 81. Born Nov.

27, 1921 in Greensboro, she was the daughter of the late Chester Arthur and Florence Gertrude (Warren) Hutson. She was a registered nurse and worked for Memorial Hospital at Easton, Caroline Nursing Home in Denton and House of the Pines in Easton, retiring in 1993. Mrs. Lord was a lifetime resident of this area. She graduated from Greensboro High Class of 1938, and Wilmington General Hospital Class of 1943.

She was a member of VFW Greensboro Post 7937 Ladies Auxiliary and Harrington Moose Lodge. Her husband, Weaver Kenneth Lord, whom she married June 23, 1948, died Jan. 23, 2002. Mrs. Lord is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 23, at Fleegle Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro. Burial was at Ridgely Cemetery. John W. Seaman PRESTON John Wallace Seaman of Preston, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 92.

Born on Dec. 21, 1910 in Norlina, N.C., he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Ischer Seaman. He was a Preston High School graduate class of 1929. He was a farmer, and owned and operated a nursery and greenhouses. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston where he had helped with the landscaping.

He was a member of the A.A.R.P. and a member of the Federalsburg Senior Center where he sang for many years with the Senior Serenaders. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Glessner Seaman, whom he married on Dec. 16, 1937; a daughter, Barbara A. Walbert of Ridgely; two grandchildren, Bruce Walbert and Tammy Buckle; three great-grandchildren, Brad Walbert, Jennifer Holden and Jessica Holden; a stepgreat-grandson, David Buckle a sister, Mildred Collins of Hurlock and several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Bertha Dietrich, and two brothers, Adolph Seaman and Fredrick Seaman, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston with the Rev. Neil Andersen officiating. Interment will follow in Junior Order Cemetery in Preston.

Box 362, Denton, Md. 21629. Dortha E. McMahon FEDERALSBURG Dortha Ellen McMahan of Federalsburg, died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 91.

Born on Dec. 5, 1911 in Beulah, Dorchester County, she was the daughter of the late James and Reva Taylor Coulbourne. Her husband of 61 years, Thomas Anthony McMahan, preceded her in death on May 13, 1996. She was a Preston High School graduate and had graduated from Goldey College in Wilmington, Del. She had worked for the former Excelsior Pearl Works and retired from Maryland Plastics in 1975.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Jean E. and Calvin Turner of Salisbury, Gail M. and William Towers of Denton; four granddaughters, Denise Shaver and Robin Kemp both of Salisbury, Michele Bodine of Denton and Julia McNeil of Federalsburg; nine great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren and a devoted niece, Carolyn Massey, of Seaford, Del. A sister, Bertha Wright, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 at the Framptom-Hawkins- Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg with the Rev. Glenn Lyburn and the Rev. Dan Walker officiating.

Interment will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society Caroline Co. Unit, Mrs.

Harriet H. Freedman STEVENSVILLE Harriet Howe Freedman died Sunday, May 18, 2003 at Taylor-Melfa Assisted Living, Denton. She was 77. Born on Aug. 29, 1925 in W.

she was the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Cora Dillon Boggs. Harriet grew up in W. Va. and moved to Maryland at the age of 18 and began her career with the federal government.

She worked for Social Security Administration in Baltimore for 18 years and the Veterans Administration for two years. She retired and moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. and lived there for 18 years. She then moved back to Maryland to be with her family.

She enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Freedman is survived by one son, William Robert Howe of Stevensville; two daughters, Erma Lee Tryon of Stevensville and Cora Elaine Simmons of Bluefield, W. seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorial services were held Wednesday, May 21, at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., in Chester.

of Easton died at his home on Monday, May 19, 2003. He was 80. Born Nov. 7, 1922 in Hurlock, he was the son of the late Lee James Hilda Legates Smith. Following graduation from Preston High School in 1940, he worked at the Federal Land Bank in Baltimore.

In 1942, he entered the Aviation Cadet Flight training program and at graduation became a pilot and officer in the U.S. Army Air Corp. In 1944, he entered active duty as a pilot with the 314th Transport Squadron, 9th Air Force. The 314th flew supplies, munitions, and gasoline to troop positions and evacuated wounded from Omaha Beach back to England. Mr.

Smith flew missions in northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, central Europe and Normandy. He received five battle stars (European, Africa, Middle Eastern Service Medal), the Air Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his release from active duty in 1946, he worked as a pilot for Allegany Airlines. In 1953 he began a career with the Higgins and Spencer Furniture Store in St. Michaels, where he remained until retiring in 1984.

After retirement he became a collector and restorer of antique clocks. He attended St. United Methodist Church, Easton. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, the former Mary Spencer, whom he married in 1950; two daughters, Laurie S.

Gaffney of Steamboat Springs, Colo. and Jenny S. Kade and her hus- band, Fritz of Easton; three grandchildren, Evan, Charlie and Laura. A sister, Bonnie Saunders, is deceased. Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 22, at St.

United Methodist Church. Burial was at Jr. Order Cemetery in Preston. Memorial donations may be made to Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Easton, Md. 21601 or St.

United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton, Md. 21601. Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton. Victoria L.J. Tilghman Victoria Lula Johnson Tilghman departed this life May 18, 2003 in her sleep at home in Bridgeville, Del.

Born in Pinetown, she was the middle of three daughters of Lewis and Gertrude Johnson. Mrs. Tilghman was an alumnus of Lockerman School and Delaware State University. She taught at the Blackwater School and Middleford School in Delaware, and at Maryland schools of Hurlock Elementary and North Dorchester. After retirement, she was a substitute teacher, traveled and was involved in civic organizations and her church.

Mrs. Tilghman is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles Tilghman; one sister, Marian I. Seymore Johnson of Easton, a son and daughter; four nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 24, at Zion United Methodist Church, Federalsburg. Burial was at Federal Hill Cemetery in Federalsburg.

Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Seaford, Del. Thomas B. Allen Jr. RANDALLSTOWN Thomas B. Allen 82, formerly of Randallstown died Monday, May 19, 2003, at the home of his niece in Easton, following an illness.

Born June 30, 1921, he was the son of Thomas Bernard Allen and Sarah Anne Allard. He retired from Maryland State Police Telecommunications System during which time he served as president of the Associated Police Communications Officers Association for three years and was also president of the Associated Police Communications Officers for one year. Later he served as president of Maryland State Police Chapter of State Employees. He was an avid member of Randallstown Liberty Chapter of AARP No. 3786, serving as president for one year, and was on the Board of directors for six years.

He was third degree member Knights of Columbus, St. Charles Council No. 3960 and also a member of American Legion Post No. 122. He was most proud of serving as a Eucharist minister for Holy Family Church in Randallstown, where he was a devoted member and enjoyed the friendship of the clergy and members.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Fleming and a niece, Jean F. Cooper of Easton; a sister-in-law, Mae Allen of Hillsboro; nephews, Daniel and Kevin Hodgman, Ross and Roland Allen, and nieces, Kim Blades and Rhonda Johnson; grand-nieces, Danielle, Lisa and Olivia Hodgman and grand-nephews, Daniel Hodgman. He and his family are most grateful for the devoted friendship of Mark and Jonni Brashears, Father McGovern and caregivers, Jenny Chance, Patti Love and Nancy Colburn of Easton. Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 29 at Holy Family Church, 9535 Liberty Road, Randallstown, Md.

21133. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Paul A. Smith Sr. EASTON Paul Albert Smith 58, of Easton died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge.

Born on Jan. 1, 1945, in Hemstead, N.Y., he was the son of Margaret Smith Magee of Wolfcreek, and the late Paul Allen Smith. He graduated from North Caroline High School, Class of 1963. Mr. Smith joined the Navy and later became employed by Absolute Painting as a painter.

Survivors include his wife, Gail (Cannon) Smith of North Ft. Myers; his mother, Margaret Smith Magee of Wolfcreek, one son, Paul A. Smith Jr. of Easton; one brother, Robert Allen Smith of Hurlock; two sisters, Margaret Rose Murphy of Frederica, Del. and Patricia Ellen James of Hurricane W.Va.

and four grandchildren, Christopher Newman, Paul Allen Smith II, Whitney Renee Smith and Briar Mason Smith. Services were held Sunday, May 25 from Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, P.A., Greensboro. Interment was in Greenmount Cemetery, Hillsboro. Irelene Washington BRIDGEVILLE Irelene Virginia Sisco Washington, known as of Bridgeville died Thursday May 22, 2003, at her residence.

She was 57. She was bom on Nov. 29, 1945, in Easton, the daughter of the late Abraham Sisco and Catherine Irene Wilmer Sisco. She attended Moton High School in Easton. She was a homemaker.

As a child and into adulthood her home church was St. Matthews United Methodist Church at Longwoods. She was a club member of the Talbot Royals and a sister to the Thunderguards. She is survived by her husband and companion of 24 years, Calvin Washington, whom she lovingly referred to as her stepfather, James M. Green of Easton; three stepchildren, Tracy Yvonne Batson of Delmar, Calvin Batson of Federalsburg, and Sherry Brummell of Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren; a sister, Faye Delores Sisco of Easton; three brothers, Abe Sisco Jr.

and his wife, Brenda of Trappe, Donald L. Sisco Sr. and his wife, Deborah of Easton, and James Howard Sisco of Easton, and several nieces, nehews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 at St.

Matthews United Methodist Church at Longwoods, with the Rev. William Ross officiating. Interment will follow at Federal Hill Cemetery in Federalsburg.
